APHA Region VII 2014 Annual Meeting

16 May 2014 8:00 AM | Anonymous

Last week the Iowa Public Health Association (IPHA) was pleased to host the annual gathering of the Region VII affiliates of the American Public Health Association (APHA). Over 100 hundred public health professionals and students traveled from across Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas (MINK) to take part.

In addition to outstanding key note addresses from Dr. Adewale Troutman (APHA) and Dr. Paul Kuehnert (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation), participants were addressed by Capt. Jose Belardo (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Region VII). Each of the four states was well represented on moderated panels addressing public health accreditation, the public health role in implementation of the Affordable Care Act and innovations in public health. A great networking reception was hosted by the State Hygienic Laboratory at the University of Iowa complete with behind the scenes tours of Iowa's public health laboratory and its LEED gold-certified building. The University of Iowa College of Public Health welcomed meeting participants and created opportunities for broader student and community engagement.

Materials from the meeting (including slides, photos and video) are available online for public access- Click Here.

Thank you to the many partners and collaborations that made this meeting a success!
